How To Regrip Your Golf Clubs
Regripping your clubs might seem intimidating, but it’s way easier than most people think. All it takes is a few basic tools, a little patience, and the perfect grip. This guide will walk you through the whole step-by-step process so you can regrip with confidence, even if you're not the DIY type.
What You’ll Need
You don’t need a full workshop or professional tools to get started. Just a few key items will do the job.
Below we’ve linked the most popular regrip kit on Amazon that has everything in one place. If you regrip your clubs often or want to upgrade your materials, we’ve also listed the individual items separately.
Essentials:
-
Amazon Kit (has everything you need)

- Hook Blade
- Golf Grip Tape
- Solvent
- Grip Remover Tool
- Rubber Vise Clamp (optional but helpful)
- Towels
- And of course… a set of new grips
Pro tip:
(Definitely not biased or anything) Fairway Grips are by far the best-looking, best-feeling grips out there, just saying.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Remove the Old Grip
Start by cutting off the old grip using your hook blade or utility knife. Be careful not to damage the shaft, especially if it's graphite. Cut away from yourself, peel the grip back, and toss it.
2. Remove the Old Tape
This part is a little tedious, but worth doing right. Peel off all the old tape. If you’ve got a heat gun or hair dryer, using it will make this step way easier. A utility knife or tape remover tool can help too.
3. Apply New Tape
Hold your new grip next to the shaft and mark where the tape should stop. You don’t want it extending past the end of the grip. Then apply your tape.
If you like a slightly thicker feel, this is the time to add more tape layers.
4. Add Solvent
Pour a generous amount of grip solvent inside the grip (the more the better) and plug both ends with your fingers, then shake it to coat the inside. Pour the excess solvent over the taped shaft. Again, be generous with the solvent. More solvent = easier install.
5. Install the New Grip
Now for the fun part. Slide the grip onto the shaft quickly and confidently. A vise makes this easier, but you can do it by hand if needed. Make any final adjustments to align logos or textures.
6. Let It Dry
Wipe off any extra solvent with a clean cloth or rag (not paper towels - they will leave residue) and set the club aside for a few hours. That’s it, you’re done. By the end of the day, your clubs will be ready to hit the course with a fresh feel.
You're all set!
Not as bad as you thought, right? Doing it at home is easier than it looks, and after your first grip install, every one after that gets quicker and more natural.
